Happy Presidents Day

Today February 18th is the Presidents Day here in United States. For those who do not know who was our 1st President or who our current President is, here's some help, a Google Maps Mashup showing the birth places of all the United States Presidents (including their spouses) and some other interesting information.

I had created this mashup almost 2 years back. The idea for this mashup had originated at a Border's Book Store in Detroit, MI. I bumped into a book at a clearance section titled something like "United States Presidents". It was priced at around $6.00. I purchased it and after that it took me couple of days to key in the data into a mysql database and then the mashup was ready in couple of hours.

America's Smartest Cities - 2008

So which cities are America's Brightest Bulbs? Check out this Google Maps Mashup of Forbes List of America's Smartest Cities. How did Forbes come up with this list? (all are college towns)
To determine their rankings, FORBES used Sperling's BestPlaces and compared the percentages of people ages 25 and up with at least a bachelor's degree.

Professors that live in a school's surrounding area contribute to the increased percentage of informed inhabitants for these cities. Bert Sperling, founder of BestPlaces, explains that these faculty members, in conjunction with ex-students, are the main forces driving up the percentages.

Congratulations to New York Giants

New York Giants ruined New England's shot at an unbeaten season. Giants won the Super Bowl XLII with a last-minute touchdown. Looks like New England Patriots is the only team in NFL History to go 18-1 in a season, without winning the Super Bowl.

Here's a Google Maps view of Giants Stadium. Hmm! Victory Celebrations have already begun in Giants Stadium :-)
